One of the things I missed most when I had to change the way I eat was something as simple as a s’more at the campground. If you’ve ever wanted s’mores without graham crackers, this one is for you!
It sounds small, but sitting around a fire while everyone else is making s’mores and you’re just… not… it feels like you’re missing out on part of the experience.
So I figured out a way to make it work.
My go-to: Simple Mills Sweet Thins
I use Simple Mills Sweet Thins instead of graham crackers. They’re small, so you have to get a little creative, but they do the job.
Here’s how I do it:
How to Make It
- Lay out 4 Sweet Thins on a plate or a piece of foil
(I arrange them into a square so they act like one “big” cracker) - Roast your marshmallow like usual
- Place the marshmallow right on top of the Sweet Thins
- Add chocolate
(I usually use a few chocolate chips) - Let the marshmallow melt the chocolate a bit, then top it if you want—or just go for it
It’s a little messy and a little harder to eat than a traditional s’more… but it works. And honestly, when you’re sitting by the fire, it still feels like a s’more.
For an “all-in-one” option, you can even use Simple Mills Chocolate Chip Cookies–no extra chocolate needed.
Even simpler option (no crackers at all)
If you don’t have the crackers—or just want to try something different—you can skip them completely.
One time we were camping with my nephews, so I made sure to bring marshmallows for a campfire treat.
Of course, when I brought the marshmallows out, the first question was:
“Do you have stuff for s’mores?”
I did not.
But I did have apples and chocolate chips.
So I cored an apple, sliced it into rounds, and used the apple slices as the base. Then we added the roasted marshmallow and a few chocolate chips on top.
And honestly? They loved it.
They didn’t even miss the graham crackers.
It’s not exactly the same as a traditional s’more, but it gives you that sweet, melty, campfire treat in a completely different (and surprisingly good) way.
